Meet the Team
Will founded Hummingbird Technologies in January 2016, where the business spent its first year developing Machine Learning algorithms at the Imperial College technology incubator. Prior to this, Will spent 10 years in the Finance and Investment sector. This included M&A and other special advisory roles at Citigroup and Lincoln International, as well as investment management at the successful multi-billion dollar Highclere global equity fund, where he was also a Partner. Will grew up on a farm and is a keen sportsman. He holds an MBA from INSEAD Business School and sits on the Board of a Royal Marsden cancer charity and Math Engine plc, a UK public investment fund.
Sales Manager with a proven track record in account management, sales growth, business development and sales coaching. 9 years working with industry leading ag-management software Gatekeeper; 5 years as part of Farmplan (Proagrica) – a RELX FTSE 100 business. Specialises in streamlining precision agriculture methodologies for arable and commercial horticulture business. BSc Commercial Horticulture from Greenwich.
Ed has enjoyed a career spanning two decades, occupying senior technical roles in world leading technology companies, with an excellent business sense and commercial awareness. He was a founder and leading member of Khronos Group and helped create the first Khronos entity which lead to the creation OpenGL ES graphics. Throughout his eighteen years at ARM Ed rose to Director of Compute Vision System, resulting in him becoming a market expert in both Deep Learning and Machine Learning.
Experienced CTO with 10 years of technical knowledge and a BSc in Computer Science from Glasgow. Multiple Startup roles and successful delivery of projects to bigger companies such as Talk Talk, Warner Music and Proctor & Gamble. Best Tech Startup at the DD awards, speaker at PHP UK Conferences.
Virginie has a Msc in Image Processing with a focus on Classification and Remote Sensing from ENSEEIHT (France).
Vadym holds a BSc in Commerce from the University of Toronto, three levels of CFA program and an MBA from INSEAD. He has established himself as a leading financier, having worked as a credit analyst at GE Capital, a Transaction Finance Associate at Infrastructure Ontario and an Investment Banking Associate at Barclays. He joins as our CFO with a wealth of VC knowledge and will be managing our Russian and Ukrainian business.
Alexander manages the investor relations, marketing, social media and PR activities for Hummingbird. Prior to joining in 2017, Alexander worked in Asset Management for a leading global institution, which had a core focus on thematic investment, in particular the food and agricultural industries. Alexander has an MA (Hons) in Modern History from the University of Edinburgh.
Obtained his MS.c and Ph.D degree in Image/Signal processing & Data Fusion from the University of Rouen, France. He has many years experience in remotely sensed data processing (Optical, SAR, LiDAR) and machine learning techniques. He has worked for Mullard Space Science Laboratory of University College London, Canadian Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation, and for Orange Labs (ex. FranceTelecom R&D). Dr. Kharbouche is a member of NASA-CAR team.
Experienced technical sales, marketing and new business account manager with demonstrated history in agricultural and fresh produce industries. Louise grew up on her family farm and wrote an award winning dissertation on the Carbon footprint of onion production whilst studying for an MSc in Carbon Science at Kings College London. Completed TACK International ProPayback sales training and spent 5 years as UK Sales and Technical Manager for Restrain.
Jake Willis Fleming
Experienced Agronomist, providing technical strategy and consultancy on operational management, for crop production.
Will got a law degree from Leicester University, before changing direction and completing a software development course at Makers Academy in London. He comes from a farming background, with many years of practical experience working as a farm-hand and Head of IT at Schwier Farms Ltd. Will was previously an intern at Hummingbird and has now taken on a full-time roll.
Ben looks after the drone operations at a field level with a team of over 20 pilots. He grew up on a farm and has 3 years experience as operations manager on 2000ha arable farm. While ops manager implemented: GPS, Control Traffic Farming, Variable Rate Applications, N-sensor, Yield Mapping, Soil Mapping and other precision farming practices. Experienced with Farmplan Gatekeeper, John Deere GreenStar, RTK and Claas E-Systems. PfCO holder for sub-20kg UAV’s. Ben holds a BSc in Agriculture from Aberystwyth Uni, focusing on precision agriculture (2:1)
Pedro de Carvalho
Pedro is British-Brazilian born with a BSc in Animal Science and an MSc Agricultural & Environmental Science from Newcastle University. A former British Tropical Agriculture Association TAAF winner and coming from a farming background, Pedro has been working with ag-digital, selling agricultural IT, for over 5 years.
MSc in Environmental Mapping from University College London. Proficient python programmer and highly skilled in spatial and numerical analysis. Experienced image analyst in the defence sector, specialised in vegetation canopies and image correction.
Big data solutions architect, with 5 years of experience in the big data ecosystem in banking, insurance, betting, telecom and retail. B.Tech in Electronics and Instrumentation, with a focus on robotics. Experienced in image processing and computer vision for the transport and gambling sectors.
Carlos Ortega Huetos
Experienced Software Engineer across a number of languages and industries. Carlos has a depth of experience ranging from startup to agency.
Silvia is the General Manager in the Hummingbird & Briskcom joint-venture in Brazil. Lawyer by training, with Postgraduate degrees in Business Administration (Fundação Dom Cabral) and Marketing (ESPM). Her professional experiences include process management in Localiza Car Rental and entrepreneurship. She is currently heading the Marketing and New Business Department in Briskcom Technologies.
Diego is the Operations Coordinator in the Hummingbird & Briskcom joint-venture in Brazil. Graduate in Business Administration and with Postgraduate degree in Corporate Finance (Ibmec). His professional experiences include asset management, team management and, currently, he coordinates Briskcom Technology’s Sales Department.
Claudio is an Advisory Board Member to the Hummingbird & Briskcom joint-venture in Brazil. His professional experiences include finance (J.P. Morgan), entrepreneurship and aviation. Currently he is the General Director of the Helicopter Operations Division at Lider Aviação S.A., the largest and most traditional general & executive aviation company in Latin America. Claudio also holds an MBA from INSEAD Business School.
Murilo de Barros
Tom Green served as the Chief Executive of Spearhead International Ltd from 2002 to October 3, 2016 and its Executive Director from 1993 to October 3, 2016. Mr. Green served as General Manager of G’s Marketing Ltd and Chief Executive of Greens of Soham Ltd. He served as Greens of Soham Ltd since 1993 and Farmwealth Ltd since 1999. He serves as Chairman of Greens of Soham. He has been Non-Executive Director of Spearhead International Ltd since October 3, 2016.
25 years of experience in Agri-Tech R&D and 15 years in remote sensing. Technical Director of Velcourt, and farm advisor of the year in 2013. Governor of the John Innes Centre in Norwich.
Currently Industry Head of Retail at Google UK, James Murray Wells OBE was founder, owner and executive chairman of Glasses Direct, which he started whilst at university in 2004 and sold to Cipio Partners in 2013. At the time of the sale, the business had grown to employ more than 150 people, with sales of £29.9m in the year ending April 2013 and was selling to 50 overseas markets.
